چکیده

Chromosome number and pollen stainability were evaluated in Lilium L. species (L. formosanum, L. miryophillum, L. regale), and in cultivars coming from Asiatic (Elite, Pollyanna, Vivaldi) and Oriental hybrid group (Cascade, Casablanca, Galilei). All the genotypes are diploid (2n=2x=24) except cv. Elite which results triploid (2n=3x=36). The pollen stainability ranged from 90 to 98% among diploids and from 80 to 90% in the triploid which exhibited pollen grains of different size, as well. A detailed analysis of microsporogenesis was carried out in the triploid cultivar. The chromosome associations at diakinesis were either trivalents or bivalents and univalents. Anaphases I and II exhibited lagging chromosomes and unequal distribution of chromosomes at the two poles. Single and double bridges plus acentric fragments formed possibly due to a paracentric inversion. Meiotic nuclear restitution mechanisms occurred following the failure of the reductional wall or, alternatively, of the equational wall. The analysis of sporads evidenced tetrads as well as dyads, triads and rare monads and poliads.

Maximum-likelihood method identifies meiotic restitution mechanism from heterozygosity transmission of centromeric loci: application in citrus

Polyploidisation is a key source of diversification and speciation in plants. Most researchers consider sexual polyploidisation leading to unreduced gamete as its main origin. Unreduced gametes are useful in several crop breeding schemes. Their formation mechanism, i.e., First-Division Restitution (FDR) or Second-Division Restitution (SDR), greatly impacts the gametic and population structures ...

The Arabidopsis mutant jason produces unreduced first division restitution male gametes through a parallel/fused spindle mechanism in meiosis II.

In plants, whole-genome doubling (polyploidization) is a widely occurring process largely contributing to plant evolution and diversification. The generation and fusion of diploid gametes is now considered the major route of plant polyploidization. The parallel arrangement or fusion of meiosis II MII spindles (ps) is one of the most frequently reported mechanisms generating triploid offspring. ...

Chromosome Behavior and Nuclear Development in Tradescantia.

COMPARISON of microsporogenesis and microspore development A in a triploid Tradescantia has shown significant deviations from the normal diploid behavior. Occasional dicentric chromatids a t meiosis are found in diploid Tradescantias, but inversion crossovers in the triploid are much more frequent. An analysis of microspore development in a triploid Tradescantia shows that chromosome number has...

Unreduced Megagametophyte Production in Lemon Occurs via Three Meiotic Mechanisms, Predominantly Second-Division Restitution

Unreduced (2n) gametes have played a pivotal role in polyploid plant evolution and are useful for sexual polyploid breeding in various species, particularly for developing new seedless citrus varieties. The underlying mechanisms of 2n gamete formation were recently revealed for Citrus reticulata but remain poorly understood for other citrus species, including lemon (C. limon [L.] Burm. f.). Her...

Reticulate Evolution of the Rock Lizards: Meiotic Chromosome Dynamics and Spermatogenesis in Diploid and Triploid Males of the Genus Darevskia

Knowing whether triploid hybrids resulting from natural hybridization of parthenogenetic and bisexual species are fertile is crucial for understanding the mechanisms of reticulate evolution in rock lizards. Here, using males of the bisexual diploid rock lizard species Darevskia raddei nairensis and Darevskia valentini and a triploid hybrid male Darevskia unisexualis × Darevskia valentini, we pe...
